The bark is still on this piece of wood, it appears to be hollowed out and stuffed with horsehair to form a pincushion! The cushion itself is showing wear and the bark has some minor chips but is firmly attached. I have not been able to find a similar pincushion so I’m going to estimate that this dates to the 1800’s based on the materials used.
